Regular Tournament
A tournament with surprises, challenges and a hope for the Championship.
It couldn’t have been more special. This tournament was filled with surprises.
In spite of injuries and bad omens, we managed to crown ourselves with a double title, as a League Champion and a Tournament Champion. Both with dramatic finals, the first one in penalty shots and the last one to a strong rival and everyone’s favorite.
We didn’t win our Twelft Star by chance. we had our best players in every match, closing with Alan Pulido as the best player in the season and an important example of the player that Matías Almeyda is proposing.
We faced each tournament with a strong attitude, game after game, date after date, our team was closer than ever. The numbers don’t lie.
Match 1: Chivas 2-1 Pumas
Pumas hasn’t been able to beat chivas in Guadalajara for 35 years.
That’s a long time.
Match 4: Querétaro 0-1 Chivas
Chivas has 6 visiting games without losing Matías Almeyda had directed over 50 league games for the most mexican team, with foundations of a particular group style that would be seen during the tournament.
Match 5: Chivas 1- 1 Santos
Three victories and a tie. Between the League and the Cup. International commitments bring a good pace to clear the road.
Match 6: Atlas 1- 2 Chivas
Alan Pulido, Rodolfo Pizarro y Oswaldo Alanís fight their first Tapatio Classic, while it’s Matías Almeyda's fourth encounter against los Zorros, with 3 victories and a tie. It’s becoming a classic move to defeat the Altas.
Match 7: Chivas 1-0 América
The team extends their winning streak at the CL 17 to seven and wins two classics in a row.
Match 9: Chivas 2-0 Toluca
Toluca takes the “Conejito” Brizuela away from us after a devious move from Rubens Sambueza; Brizuela had a surgery and missed the rest of the tournament. This would bring an moment of sadness for Almeyda’s team, but there, Alan Pulido scores his first couple of goals in for our team.
Match 12: Morelia 0-0 Chivas
Chivas has it’s third game without receiving a goal during the LigaMX, defending the team’s shirt, which places Rodolfo Cota as the second goalkeeper with less scores during the Closing 2017 tournament.
Match 13: Chivas 3-2 Puebla
Orbelín Pineda Has 50 games in the LigaMX defending the Guadalajara Shirt.
Carlos Fierro scores heroically, surprising the goalkeeper Cristian Campestrini , showing the mindset of the team.
The international press celebrated this victory with headlines such as:
"La inspiración genial de un atacante mexicano olvidado sobre el terreno de juego".
Match 10 (pending): Tigres 3-0 Chivas
Chivas lost the game, and would begin feeding off the idea of an "invincible" rival. Both teams would meet again on the final, with a cold plate of revenge.
Match 16: Chivas 1-1 León
Guadalajara has a pass to the Luiguilla of Mexican Soccer, for third tournament in a row.
Match 17: Necaxa 0-0 Chivas
For the second time in a row, Chivas finishes in the first four for qualification.
After a steady tournament and many surprises, the challenges to come would only be greater.
League MX M1: Chivas 2 - 1Pumas. "Chofis” López and Alan Pulido scored the most goals this season. Rodolfo Pizarro started playing as a Chivas in an official game.
League MX M2: Monterrey 2 - 2 Chivas. With determination, sacrifice and two expulsions, Chivas had a valuable 2- 2 tie with the Rayados in their new stadium.
League MX M3: Chivas 0 - 1 Xolos. In spite of every effort, Guadalajara Fell in their own home, with minimum difference to the Xolos of Tijuana.
League MX M4: Querétaro 0 - 1 Chivas. El Rebaño brought home three points from the “Corregidora”, thanks to a goal by "Chapito" Sánchez. So far there were six games as a visitor without a defeat.
League MX M5: Chivas 1 - 5 Santos. With drama and a fighting spirit, Chivas saved the tie in the last breath of the game, finishing the week in a good way with three wins, a tie and a pass to the championship and the Cup.
League MX M6: Atlas 1 - 2 Chivas. Chivas defeated Atlas and kept the nice tradition of winning the tapatío classic, with 7 matches won. Chivas confirmed that Guadalajara and the Jalisco Stadium is, in fact, their territory.
League MX M7: Chivas 1 - 0 América. Chivas imposed themselves on their home, having control on the field and to remain undefeated during the Closing Tournament 2017.
League MX M8: Chiapas 4 - 3 Chivas. Chivas played an amazing first round, that gave them a two goal leverage, but they couldn’t hold the feline down and fell in the jungle.
League MX M9: Chivas 2 - 0 Toluca. A demonstration of good play, Guadalajara Imposed on Toluca, and took the lead of the League MX.
League MX M10: Tigres 3 - 0 Chivas The game was even, but Chivas fell in their visit to the Volcán and ended their winning streak.
League MX M11: Chivas 2 - 0 Veracruz. Chivas continued to be the leader in the league, showing a dynamic game play that defeated the Veracruz easily.
League MX M12: Morelia 0 - 0 Chivas. The team strived for victory, but they didn’t score a goal and brought home only one point from their visit to Morelia.
League MX M13: Chivas 3 - 2 Puebla.. In an exciting game, Guadalajara showed once more their offensive power and beat the score set by Puebla, with a noteworthy performance by Carlos Fierro, who scored the winning goal.
League MX M14: Pachuca 0 - 0 Chivas. In a visitor and local games that concluded without goals, the Herd scored a point from their visit and managed to stay on top of the general board.
League MX M15: Cruz Azul 2 - 1 Chivas. Chivas fell under the alternative team of the Cruz Azul, in a blue stadium filled with ChivaHermanos.
League MX M16: Chivas 1 - 1 León. Guadalajara got their pass to the Liguilla of Mexican Football, after a tie with the Equipo Esmeralda, in a game with more goal opportunities than their rival, but they didn’t manage to score.
League MX M17: Necaxa 0 - 0 Chivas. Chivas met with Marcelo Barovero, who stopped the Guadalajara team from winning. With this tie, El Rebaño assured a third place in the general board, with 27 points.
